Knee pain refers to discomfort or inflammation arising from any of the structures that make up the knee joint, including bones (femur, tibia, patella), cartilage (meniscus), ligaments (ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL), tendons, and surrounding muscles. These components work together to support movement and stability, and injury or wear to any of them can lead to pain, swelling, or reduced function.
